OFF 2006 a success
What an amazing and inspiring time we all had...Huge thanks to everyone who helped and supported us, especially to all the local, interstate and overseas artists for their performances and collaborations, and to the great audiences who attended the festival. The opening and closing nights at Griffith University, the performance/screening nights at the Globe Theatre, and the workshops in Super 8 filmmaking and Acoustic Ecology were each unique and successful in presenting the vibrant, idiosyncratic, and unique practices around experimental film.

The special guests of OFF 2006, Arthur and Corinne Cantrill, were particularly pleased with the large and enthusiastic audience who showed their appreciation & interest in the Cantrills' historic program of expanded cinema, which was performed for the first time in almost 35 years, and it was great to see so many young audience members snapping up signed copies of early editions of the seminal 'Cantrills Filmnotes.

Festival Reports and Documentation

Two major articles by Melbourne-based writer, curator, broadcaster, composer, filmmaker and occasional member of The High God People, Jim Knox have appeared in 'Senses of Cinema' and 'Realtime Arts' dealing with the Otherfilm Festival (held in March this year). Jim's articles look closely at many of the works presented and also offer some compelling arguments regarding the history of institutional support (or lack of) for 'creative media practice' in Australia. Jim describes the Cantrill's expanded cinema performance (performed at OFF for the time in 35 years) as "simply the most accomplished Australian experimental cinema I've ever seen........if you haven't seen it then you simply don't have any idea of how rich a film history this nation possesses."
